History of Transport Technology
When Transnational Freightlink identified the need and possible benefits of Mepa-Link Combinations in South Africa and signed up a licence and manufacture agreement with Saalasti Oy of Finland, it soon became apparent that parts prices in South Africa for the Trucking industry were ridiculously high. Hence the formation of Transport Technology.
VBG Sweden, who produce a full range of drawbar couplings was the first overseas principal that gave us full distribution rights in Southern Africa after Saalasti of Finland (for the Mepa). The VBG contract terminated on 11 March 2004 and was replaced in the same year with Cramer. We regained the VBG contract in November 2005.
Other products subsequently sourced and distributed are Fifth Wheels, Couplings, King Pins, Landing Legs, Aluminium Wheels, Steel Wheels, Conveying Floors, Automated Loading and Unloading Trailer Systems as well as compatible Docks.
Service levels to our clients are exceptionally high as we are fully aware (through operating Transnational Freightlink) that vehicle downtime is a huge problem for transporters. To this end parts are distributed from our Randburg Warehouse overnight, to all major cities, throughout South Africa and its neighbouring territories as and when required. The advantage of this, apart from service, also includes free delivery to customers.
We have a separate office and warehouse in Durban, George as well as Cape Town.
The ethos as outlined in Transnational Freightlink is carried through to Transport Technology and its employees. Administration costs are curtailed by dual utilisation of staff in both businesses.
The relationship with all our overseas principals has always been healthy and conducted on a mutually beneficial relationship.
Currently we supply major OEMs and transport fleets throughout sub-Saharan Africa.
